Unbelievable manta action at Manta Alley, South Komodo!

This beeing the very last trip for the Komodo season, the day we spent at Manta Alley was a fantastic Grand Finale! Never before have we had manta action like this – the gracious rays were absolutely EVERYWHERE! I don’t think any of us had less than four Mantas at any time. Rather like eight or ten...

We were also blessed with plenty of shark action (including a feeding frenzy together with the Dolphins!), huge schools of fish and stunning nightdives.

At Cannibal Rock, the nudi hunters got a handful, with a virtual explosion of all the species we had been seeing over the season – Thecaceras, Tambjas, Nemrothas - you name it. Plus, of course, the resident four massive Frogfish we usually manage to find here.

A nightdive round-up would look something like this: Stargazers, Stonefish, Catsharks, more Frogfish, Spanish Dancers and sleeping Turtles. Not bad, huh?

Photographers onboard had a busy time, that’s for sure. Not only with trying to get a whole Manta in the frame, with the rays hanging an inch from their face (anyone with a 10 mm lens to spare??), but also with prime targets like Blue Ribbon Eels, Denise Pygmy Seahorses and Pom-pom Crabs.

Time flies when you are having fun, and before we knew it, we were heading back to Bali for the the last time. But we told the Mantas we’ll be back in May next year!
