Komodo liveaboard diving. We also had 30 Pilot Whales just in front of us!! Magical moments.

Even though we had excellent diving this trip, I think most of us will best remember the appearence of a Minke Whale next to the boat, escorted by a pod of 30-40 Dolphins! We also had 30 Pilot Whales just in front of us!! Magical moments!

But let’s start with the beginning of the trip. After a day at Moyo and Satonda Islands (with Denise Pygmy Seahorses, Orangutang Crabs, Frogfish etc) we headed for Sangeang Volcano and the ”Hot Rocks”. A very special place, with bubbles from the still active volcano. Like diving in a huge aquarium. And lots of life: Blue Ribbon Eels, Pegasus-Fish, special Nudibranchs and Leaf Scorpionfish just to mention a few. Plus a set of pink Pygmy Seahorses, the Hippocampus bargibanti.

As for the famous Komodo Dragons (the biggest lizzard in the world!), we had six big animals during the walk we do every trip. Add the four dragons we saw on the beach in Rinja Island, and I think we have an all time high here!

Cannibal Rock, frequently rated as beeing among the ten best divesites in the world, lived up to its reputation. Plenty of Frogfish, Blue-spotted Stingrays, Zebra Crabs and all the Nudibranchs in the book. The nightdive at nearby Torpedo Alley, delivered as usual, with Upside-down Jellyfish carried around by crabs, enormous Pleurobranchus Grandis (that’s one big slug, folks!) and several juvenile Frogfish.

At Manta Alley in South Komodo, we yet again had the privilege of diving with lots of Manta Rays. We estimated around 15 different ones, slowly moving in to the cleaning stations.

Heading back north again, we decided to do another dive at Takat Toko, (Castle Rock). Turned out to be a lucky draw, as we found ourselves in the middle of a feeding frenzy, with Whitetip Sharks, Giant Trevallies and Grey Reef Sharks.l Quite a show!

After all this excitement, we relaxed back onboard, cruising in calm seas into the beautiful sunset over Lombok.
