Liveaboard trip 22/03 – 31/03 2008

Thailand - Burma Dive Safari

Mermaid I

Mermaid I at Similan Island Phuket Thailand

We started this trip with a beautiful dive in the Similans. Lots of soft corals and plenty of fish. Continuing up to Koh Bon, we saw two mating Leopard Sharks at the West Ridge.

The following day we dived Richelieu Rock, almost at the border to Burma. Ghost Pipefish, Tigertail Seahorses, Chevron Barracudas and Harlequin Shrimps kept all the photographers onboard busy.

Three Islets, our first stop in Burma, surprised us with a Whaleshark. For seval of the guests, this was their first one! But, of course, there were the usual suspects: Marble Rays, Nursesharks, Seahorses and Cuttlefish.

Already before the morning dive at Tower Rock, we saw the Mobula Rays around the boat. Even jumping out of the water! So we weren’t too surprised to encounter them under the surface as well. But a wonderful sight it was, with 15-20 of them in formation flight!

Big schools of fish at Black Rock; Batfish, Big-eye Trevallies, Rainbow Runners and African Pompanos.

Heading south to the Twins, we had a big Manta Ray in crystal clear water at North Twin Pinnacle. At South Twin, we enjoyed a huge, all red Frogfish, and loads of Nudibranchs.

The Burma diving ended in style, with plenty of action at Western Rocky. The cave is always exciting, but the fishlife around these rocky outcrops is amazing!
