Encountering the elusive Guitar Shark is a special event, and on top of that, this was the Bowmouth, even more rare (the other model beeing the Shovelnose). Having been diving this area for almost 10 years, I’ve only seen it once before.

This was during an early morning dive at Western Rocky, and we were scanning the sandy areas outside the main rocks, looking for Leopard Sharks and Marble Rays, when we saw the spiky silhouette of the 3,5 meter beast. It allowed us to get fairly close, before taking off into the deep. A moment to remember!

Trying to convince everybody that Ghost Pipefish are not only difficult to spot, but also quite rare, wasn’t easy this trip, since we found more than 45 different ones. In all colours and sizes, from tiny black, yellow and red, up to fully grown white specimens.

We also had the opportunity to dive with a five meter Whaleshark at Fanforest Pinnacle. And in crystal clear water as well!

Mating Cuttlefish on several divesites, big Octopi, a pair of Harlequin Shrimps, huge Marble Rays and a big school of Yellowtail Barracudas made for rewarding days in the Mergui archipelago.

Back in Thailand we spent a day at the most famous divesite here – Richelieu Rock. Chevron Barracudas, Seahorses, all kinds of Moray Eels and beautiful soft corals.
