Weather was good, so we decided to head up far north to the extremely scenic Wayag area. This got to be one of the absolute best views in the world! A bit of a climb to get to the top, but really worth it.
Diving good as well, of course. We had Mantas all over the place this trip, including at the famous cleaning station in Dampier Strait. Full show, with 15-20 gracious rays every minute of our two dives there. We also saw them at Eagle Rock, Blue Magic, Sardine Reef as well as Magic Mountain in the south!
For the balance, and for the photographers to get a chance to use their macro lenses, we spent a day i Alyui Bay. Lots of Pygmy Seahorses, Nudibranchs and various kinds of rare critters like Juvenile Barramundi Cods, Juvenile Batfish, Cockatoo Waspfish and one of the most annoying fish I know– the Toadfish. Easy to hear (very loud!), hard to actually see… Plus the signature animal of Raja Ampat: the adorable (and slightly comical!) Walking Shark!
