One of the most famous divesites in Raja Ampat is called Blue Magic, known for lots of pelagic action. Grey Reef Sharks, Tunas, massive schools of Jackfish, Manta Rays and vicious-looking Barracudas. However, this time the magic was of an unexpected kind – a Blue-ringed Octopus made an appearance! Normally these little fellows are quite shy, and getting a good photo can be a bit of a challenge to say the least. Not so this time – for a good 30 minutes we had it trotting about right in front of us, giving the photographers plenty of chances for that great shot!

We also had a lovely day of diving in blue-water mangroves, a specialty of Raja Ampat. Acting as nurseries for a whole range of fish, including Barracudas, Needlefish, Cardinalfish and Jackfish, swimming around in this surrealistic environment is a unique experience. With a bit of luck you might even see an Archerfish spitting down an insect for breakfast!
A day with the Mantas in Dampier Strait ended the blue magic adventures. For this time…
