Even though the briefing for this dive was to look out into the blue for pelagics, nobody expected a Whaleshark to show up (not that we had any problem with that, though…). Halfway between Halmahera and South Raja Ampat we were hoping for Tunas, Wahoos and Barracudas when this majestic animal, the world’s biggest fish, appeared out of nowhere. For several of the guests, this was the first encounter, and needless to say there was (quite) a bit of celebrations that night.
After a rewarding nightdive in Lembeh Strait, once again we got to see the massive school of Chevron Barracudas at Tifore Island. Being completely surrounded by thousands of them was very special!
Arriving in Misool, we enjoyed some of the absolute best soft corals in the world. With calm seas and blue water, we did some wonderful dives here before cruising up to Waigeo, North Raja Ampat. Here we got lucky again with big fish; plenty of Manta Rays, Barracudas, Batfish, Bumphead Parrotfish as well as a selection of reef sharks, including Grey Reefs.
