Sonja discovered her passion for the underwater world in Thailand in 2010, where she started taking pictures with a small compact camera just for fun. After becoming a scuba dive instructor and teaching diving, she was up for a new challenge and became a fully qualified underwater videographer in 2012. Ever since she has been diving and working mainly in South East Asia – filming, editing and producing either promotional videos for dive centres or creating memories for divers on holidays.
First time diving Komodo in 2013, Sonja immediately fell in love with the fish diversity and the beautiful coral reefs but especially all the small critters which made her stay in Indonesia. Not long after, she started her own video production company in the Gili Islands, filming beginner divers on a daily basis and teaching basic videography courses before finally joining on board Mermaid I in November 2014.
Sonja works with a Sony RX100 MkII and Nauticam housing, i-Dive Pro6 video lights and shoots wide angle as well as macro. She is happy to help with any camera equipment related questions or videography tips. Check her gallery below or go to her website www.flowavefilms.com
