Incredible 10 Days Adventure

This week, the Mermaid I with Rainbow Divers embarked on an incredible 10 days adventure, departing from Bali through Komodo and beyond.

Coinciding with the full moon, this time Komodo offered more actions and unexpected surprises. From action packed drift dives over vibrant coral reefs, a myriad of rare tiny critters, Sharks galore and incredible Manta Ray encounters

Some of the notable highlights include, our visit to the largest bay in the island of Sumbawa, where our lucky guests encountered six Whale Sharks feeding just below the surface underneath one of the traditional Indonesian fishing platforms called Bagan. Starting early in the morning allowed for a long interaction with these friendly Ocean Giants.

On the topic of Sharks, we also had an amazing encounter with Whitetip Reef Sharks in the famous Castle Rock on the north of Komodo island. As soon as we jumped, we were treated to see a dozen of Whitetip Reef Sharks all lined up right at where the current splits. Truly a sight to behold!

At the famous Manta Alley, we were lucky to drift into 20 plus Reef Manta Rays, all lined up in the middle of the channel, gracefully gliding while opening their mouths to feed on nutrient rich waters of South Komodo. Some lucky guests were also delighted to see “Manta Train”, after they left the feeding station.

Taking a break from the action, we even tested our eyesight to find the rare tiny wonderful critters hidden in the sand. The critter enthusiasts were delighted to find a myriad of rare critters such as the Blue-ringed Octopus, seahorses, frogfishes, ghost pipefishes and many different species of nudibranchs. Critter diving around Komodo is just something you don’t want to miss!

Of course a trip to Komodo would be incomplete without walking alongside the legendary Komodo Dragon. On one fine afternoon, we took a break from diving and trekked through some rugged yet picturesque landscapes to see Komodo Dragons. These prehistoric beasts were both intimidating and fascinating.

As the trip comes to an end, we spend a full day diving in Sangeang. Diving next to a still active volcano was becoming a favorite among our guests. Such a surreal experience exploring the black sandy slopes and finding even more rare tiny critters!
