Itinerary with MV Mermaid I Bali – Komodo – Maumere

Dives

Day 1

Check-in on board Mermaid I between 13:00-15:00 hours at Benoa Harbour in Bali. After the boat and safety briefing, you’ll set up equipment and you can settle into your cabin. Dinner will be served at 19:00 hours as Mermaid I cruises into the sunset on her overnight journey to Moyo Island, north west Sumbawa.

Day 2

Start your adventure with a great dive in the calm, clear waters of Angel Reef at Moyo Island. Massive elephant ear and barrel sponges, schools of longfin bannerfish and red tooth triggerfish, frogfish, nudibranchs, eels, surgeonfish, snappers and dogtooth tuna.

Afterwards, Mermaid I will cruise for two hours to Satonda Island for a world class night dive. After a great dive and dinner, she will cruise overnight to Sangeang Island, off the north coast of Sumbawa.

Day 3

Three dives at Sangeang Island for rare nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses and underwater hot springs that support this very unique marine life. Then cruise to Gili Banta for the night dive at Gili Banta Bay or Stargazer beach which will deliver many unusual species and hunters in action.

Day 4

Two dives at Gili Banta on reefs, walls and submerged seamounts offering dives with pelagics, turtles, schooling fish and clear waters. Afterwards, cruise to the Komodo NP, two dives at Gili Lawa Laut or Gili Lawa Darat. Famous sites such as Castle Rock, Crystal Rock, Lighthouse Reef, The Old Passage will delight with fast drifts and great fish action. Loads of feeding action on the morning and late afternoon dives here. The chance for grey reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, turtles, mantas and even dolphins adds to the excitement!

Day 5

Two more dives around Gili Lawa Laut area then into the Lintah Strait, which has beautiful coral reefs, sea mounts and crystal clear waters. The famous Pink Beach at Komodo Island offers a fabulous night dive with fire urchins, zebra crabs, frogfish, nudibranchs, amazing basket stars and more.

Day 6

Start your day with an exciting visit to Komodo National Park to walk with the dragons! Then relax for around 1.5 hours as Mermaid I cruises south to Manta Alley, home to a large school of reef mantas. After exhilarating manta dives, she will cruise to Horseshoe Bay for your night dive at Torpedo Alley. This site offers some of the most weird and wonderful critters and macro diving you will ever see!

Day 7

Spectacular diving awaits you today at the world famous dive site Cannibal Rock – rare nudibranchs, frogfish, spectacular corals, sponges, ascidians, huge black coral bushes, turtles, cuttlefish, loads of reef fish and more. Watch dragons on the beach, spot monkeys, deer and wild pigs along the shore, go beach combing. There might even be a chance to follow whales and dolphins feeding in the calm bay.

You will overnight at this peaceful place, night diving at one of the many fabulous spots.

Day 8

Three dives around the Lintah Strait, the strait between Komodo Island on the west and Rinca and Flores on the east. Here, you can expect crystal clear waters and a vast diversity of marine life, from sharks and rays, including mantas, to turtles galore, schooling fish and nudibranchs if you can take your eyes off the rest of the action going on around you!

There is a choice of dive sites, including Batu Bolong, Takat Makassar, Tatawa Besar, Tatawa Kecil, Batu Tengah, and Siaba Kecil. Your night dive can be either a critter dive at Wainiloo or a reef dive in northern Komodo. Cruise overnight to Maumere.

The last two dives will be done in the incredible Maumere Area, in either Pomana Kecil Island, Raja Island or Pulau Besar.

After a delicious breakfast, it's time to disembark!

Our amazing crew will take you to the airport or your hotel in Maumere.

Visit the local village then its lunch for us! Next is a great dive at Panjang Reef – are the pygmy seahorses here? Then we cruise 2 hours to Satonda Island for a world class night dive after watching a million bats fly at sunset. After a great dive and dinner we cruise overnight to Sangeang Island, off the north coats of Sumbawa

If the tide is right we hunt grey reef shark and dolphin at Taka Toko Gili Lawalaut. Dive 2 is a fast drift with pelagics and manta at Lighthouse Reef or the Old Passage. Then Crystal Rock awesome soft corals and the chance for sharks, turtles, giant Maori wrasse, a ‘fish soup” dive with a high chance of eagle rays too! Then we cruise south for fascinating night dive at Pink Beach near the entrance to the Komodo National Park

The Three Sisters call us to Padar Island for sharks and nudibrancs, surgeon fish and devil Rays. Manta Alley or Takat Makasar follows for the chance for a manta aggregation – WOW! Batu Bolung aka “Current City” is the home for large Napolean Wrasse, turtles, blue fin trevally Or maybe a dive at Tatawa Kecil – we check out the currents first to make sure the dive will be cool for everyone on board! Then we travel further east in the Komodo national park and begin our journey to Maumere

Garuda Indonesia is the national airline of Indonesia. Named after the holy bird Garuda of Hinduism from the national emblem of Indonesia. Garuda flies to most of our ports of embarkation and disembarkation. At the time of writing they offer an extra 23kg baggage allowance for sports gear, including scuba diving equipment.
Batik Air is a full-service airline which began operations in May 2013. This airline is part of the Lion Air group. Batik Air flies to many of Mermaid’s destinations. They offer some convenient options such as direct flights from Jakarta to Sorong, for our Raja Ampat cruises, or to Ambon to join some of our most exciting cruises.

Lion Air is an Indonesian low-cost airline and is the second largest low-cost airline in Southeast Asia after AirAsia and the largest airline of Indonesia. The airline operates domestic as well as international routes, which connects different destinations of Indonesia. Wings Air is part of Lion Air and flies to the more remote destinations. Batik Air is also part of the Lion Air group. Between all these airlines, Lion, Wings and Batik can fly you to any of the area where we operate.
Sriwijaya Air is an Indonesian airline based in Jakarta. Garuda Indonesia group recently took over the operation of Sriwijaya Air. This airline is the country’s third largest carrier and offers flights to various Indonesian destinations and a few international destinations. Sriwijaya also offer convenient direct flights from Jakarta to Sorong for our Raja Ampat cruises.
