Amazing Raja Ampat

MV Mermaid II
Sorong-Raja Ampat-Sorong
February 16-24, 2023

Mermaid Liveaboards recently embarked on an 8-day adventure through the stunning Raja Ampat islands, and it was nothing short of incredible.

From February 16th to February 24th, we explored the crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life that this Indonesian archipelago is known for.

Our journey began in the south of Raja Ampat, where we encountered Manta Rays gracefully gliding though a cleaning station. These gentle giants are a highlight of any diving trip, and seeing them up close and personal was an unforgettable experience.

As we continued northwards, we came across wobbegong sharks hiding beneath the vibrant coral reefs. With their flat, camouflaged bodies and frilly appendages, they blend seamlessly into their surroundings and can be difficult to spot. But our experienced guides knew just where to look, and we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of these elusive creatures!

Next we took our dinghies to the edge of a lush mangrove forest, and dived through one of the most important and delicate ecosystems of Indonesia.

But the adventure didn’t end when the sun went down. At night, we were treated to sightings of shortfin lionfish, cuttlefish, octopus, and even bigfin reef squid hunting for prey! It was a mesmerizing display of the nocturnal creatures that call these waters home.

Overall, our 25 dives from the south all the way to the north of Raja Ampat were nothing short of amazing.
