Biodiversity Super Special: The perfect crossing

When a trip just takes your breath away… it must have been because it was the perfect Crossing! The Biodiversity Super Special is the highlight of the year and for a good reason: over 1,200
nautical miles from Maumere via Alor, the Forgotten Islands in the Banda Sea all the way up to Raja Ampat.

This year, we couldn’t have asked for better conditions. The sea was extremely flat and calm, not a single wave during our 16 days on board Mermaid 2 which is incredible. We had amazing, clear
blue waters in the Banda Sea and ticked off all the specials there are to see.

Starting with the Rhinopias and tons of Frogfishes in Alor, the Hammerhead Sharks in the Bandas, followed by Sea Snakes, Honeycomb Moray Eels and mating Mandarin Fish. And if that wouldn’t have been enough, we even had a Whale Shark saying hello on two of the dives!

Just before entering Raja Ampat, the island of Koon spoilt us with schooling fish life: Batfish, Trevallies, Barracudas… you name it! And as we like to finish our trip on a high, we encountered hunting Mobula Rays, Oceanic Mantas and all different species of Pygmy Seahorses diving in Misool and the Dampier Strait.

But see for yourself and enjoy another highlights video from this year’s Biodiversity Super Special!
