This marvelous trip was a once in a lifetime adventure, teeming with encounters with large marine life, all expertly guided by renowned marine biologist Dr. Charles Anderson. We began our journey in southern Bali aboard the Mermaid 1, setting sail towards Sumbawa and passing the breathtaking landscapes of Lombok. Our first highlight came with an awe-inspiring encounter with the world’s largest fish, the majestic whale shark.
Continuing on to Komodo, we were greeted not only by the legendary Komodo dragons on both Rica Island and within Komodo National Park, but also by a delightful array of tropical bird species. With some of the healthiest and most diverse reefs in Indonesia, our snorkeling excursions were nothing short of spectacular, featuring a vibrant mix of marine life that included white-tip reef sharks, eagle rays, reef octopuses, and graceful manta rays. Between these magical snorkeling sessions, our group encountered various cetaceans each day.
On one memorable stretch toward Maumere, we were thrilled to spot eight different cetacean species, including sperm whales, beaked whales, melon-headed whales, oceanic mantas, and numerous dolphin species, among many others.
