This week’s voyage in Raja Ampat onboard the Mermaid II showcased the region’s incredible biodiversity through a series of incredible encounters. From the smallest of critters, vibrant coral reefs, to schooling fish, sharks and even a couple of manta rays
Spirits were high as we set sail south towards Misool, everybody was excited for what lay ahead. Upon our arrival in Misool, we were immediately greeted with a picturesque landscape of rocky limestone islands that rises above water full of beautiful reefs, pinnacles, vibrant soft corals and gorgonian sea fans that are home to several species of pygmy seahorses, and schooling fishes. Some lucky guests even had some close encounters with a couple of friendly reef manta rays.
After some time exploring the south, we sailed north towards Penemu and the Dampier Strait where we spent the remaining diving days. We were treated with great visibility, beautiful hard coral gardens, large school of fusiliers, several encounters with multiple Wobbegong Sharks in one dive, a visit to the iconic bluewater mangroves with a long interaction with a couple of friendly cuttlefishes, and an incredible jetty dive full of marine life. What a wonderful way to end our Raja Ampat season
