Our expedition aboard Mermaid 1 showcased the incredible diversity of Indonesia’s underwater world, offering unforgettable encounters with marine life and stunning dive sites. The adventure began in Ambon, renowned for its muck diving. Here, we discovered a treasure trove of macro wonders, including cephalopods, colourful crustaceans, and tiny frogfish. Moving to the Banda Sea, the focus shifted to pelagic action as we encountered a spectacular school of hammerhead sharks. The experience was complemented by a cultural visit to the historic Spice Islands, rich in heritage and history. The final leg took us to Raja Ampat, a diver’s paradise. We explored vibrant reefs teeming with schooling fish of batfish, barracuda, and fusiliers and we were lucky enough to encounter oceanic manta rays and wobbegong sharks. Among the highlights were dives beneath magical mangrove forests and iconic jetty sites brimming with marine life.
