In March, Mermaid Liveaboards collaborated with Snorkel Venture to offer an
incredible snorkelling trip that took guests through some of the most stunning
and diverse marine environments in Indonesia. The trip provided a unique
opportunity to explore the vibrant underwater shallows and encounter a
stunning array of marine life.
Starting in the North of Sulawesi, the trip took us to the world renowned macro
dive sites of Lembeh, where snorkelers encountered nudibranchs, scorpion fish,
ribbon eels and even the famous peacock mantis shrimp.
Next, guests explored the mangroves at Gam Island and Yanggefo Island. The
sunlight filtering through the mangrove roots created a surreal experience and
highlighted the diverse marine life that thrived in these areas. We encountered
batfish, archer fish, and even came across two broadclub cuttlefish on eggs.
As the trip continued to Halmahera, we came across banded sea kraits,
hawksbill turtles, and schools of bumphead parrotfish. Sharks were aplenty, and
snorkelers spotted wobbegong sharks hidden beneath table corals, black tips
cruising the reefs and the fascinating walking sharks crossing the sandy seafloor
at night.
Finally, the trip ended in Raja Ampat, where guests snorkelled above incredible
hard coral reefs, through schools of big eye trevally and barracuda, and had the
ultimate manta ray experience. The graceful giants soared below and even
above snorkelers, flashing their white underbellies in a thrilling display.
Overall, the Mermaid Liveaboards trip was a once-in-a-lifetime snorkelling
experience. Whether guests were experienced snorkelers or beginners, this trip
was a must-do for anyone who loved the ocean and wanted to experience the
beauty of Indonesia’s underwater world.
